Flowers From the Farm

So you may have noticed a new edition to our website this last week. A new little logo, but big on excitement! We are now fully fledged members of Flowers From the Farm. You may be wondering what or who Flowers From the Farm are, so let me tell you a bit about them...

Flowers from the Farm is a co-operative of British cut flower growers founded in 2011. They are a growing, not-for-profit movement with over 900 active members, who’s flower farms range in size from micro-businesses on allotments and cutting gardens (like us!) to sites of up to 6 acres or more.

One of the aims of Flowers from the Farm is to promote British flowers and to encourage more people to grow cut flowers in Britain. As recently as 50 years ago, commercially grown British cut flowers dominated the UK market with imports known by traders as ‘exotics’. Today, the opposite is true: 90% of the flowers sold through florists, supermarkets and wholesalers are imported not just from Holland but flown in from growers as far afield as Ecuador, Colombia, Kenya and even Ethiopia. British-grown have become the new exotics. This not only makes it hard for people trying to sell British-grown flowers but also has a huge impact on the environment - concern for which, is at the centre of everything we do at From the patch.

So we could not be any more excited about joining Flowers From the Farm! They represent and promote all of the things which are important to us and have already given us such a warm welcome.
